Ñ check that Quicktime 2.0 and the last version of the Apple Multimedia Tuner are installed. (if not copy them from the cd).
Ñ To start the application, double-click the projector icon corresponding to your language (French/English) and machine type (68k or PowerPC).
Ñ The projectors on the cd have a memory partition set to 5 megs minimum with a preferred size of 7 Megs. For better performance, you can copy the projector to your hard disc and increase its memory partition.
Ñ For best picture rendering, a thousand colors monitor is recommended. However,
the Maeght Foundation runs in 256 colors with an acceptable quality. The projector always force the video to thousand colors if possible.
If your video can not display thousands of colors but works with millions of colors and the application has enough free memory, it will work in millions of colors.
Ñ For 68k machine, make sure virtual memory is off. Also check that other memory extensions such as Connectix's RAM Doubler¬ are off.
Tips
Ñ The on-line help is called and exited by typing the "h", "?" or "help" key.
Ñ At start up, during the introduction sequence, click anywhere to go directly to the next screen.
Ñ To exit the Foundation, type Command-Q. To leave the credits, type Command-Q again.
Minimum User Guide
The control bar
The controls on the vertical bar at the left of the screen are, from top to bottom:
- the bee: use it to fly over all the art works presented in the Foundation. Use the red top and down arrows to scroll through the works. They appear in the same order as the video walk. Click on a work icon to see the summary of the corresponding subject. Click on its big picture at the left, or summary at the right, to go to the subject.
Ñ In the summary of a subject (at the right), video sequences are indicated by a small "F" (for "Film").
Ñ Between the icons, the cursor changes to small foot steps. Click there to go back to the main video walk, where the corresponding art work will appear.
- the map (symbolized by the icon of the Foundation) shows your location in the Foundation and allows you to move elsewhere. It also reminds you of the great moments of the history of the Foundation. Click on a place in the map to go to the corresponding video walk. Click on a date to see corresponding events. Use the arrows to scroll through the texts.
- the lexicon (symbolized by a small round) presents definitions of main terms and names used. If in a screen text, you see a red word with a small round transparent cursor, then it is in the lexicon: click on the word to call the corresponding definition.
To quit the "bee" screen, or the "lexicon" or the "map" one, click again on the corresponding icon on the control bar.
- In the main video walk, there is also a spirale icon: use it to go to the menus of the past. They present various subjects corresponding to the history of the Foundation, with a lot of audio comments by Marguerite and AimÄ Maeght (audio comments are triggered by clicking on the green lizard icon). The "past" is also accessible in subjects with a "recollection" section.
- In subjects, use the white arc of circle at the left to go back to the video walk.
Video Walk (with the video in a circle)
This is a complete tour through the areas of the Foundation in the following order: the garden, the St-Bernard chapel, the cloister, Braque's pool, the Town Hall wing, Miro's Labyrinth, Giacometti's courtyard. As works come in the video, corresponding icons come around.
Ñ Roll the cursor over them to have an explanation.
Ñ Click on the icon to go to the corresponding subject.
Ñ Click on the video circle to go directly to the following work.
Ñ To rewind the video at the beginning of the current area, click on its name, centered in the bottom of the screen.
Ñ To go to the next or previous area, click in the right or left small squares at the bottom of the screen, on each side of the area name.
Ñ Maintain the mouse button down on the video circle to stop it: moving it down also allows you to read the captions of the works.
Hot Words
These are words colored in red in the text. By rolling the mouse over them, a map or explanation may appear.
Hyperlinks
When the cursor rolling over a hot word changes to 3 small bullets (ÑÑÑ), then this word is a link. Clicking on it will:
Ñ either make appear other pictures (clicking again will reset the screen),
Ñ or lead you to another part in the title (e.g. the biography of an artist). Use the gray tags to go back to the previous screen.
When the cursor changes to a small circle, then the word is defined in the lexicon.
Gray (Return) Tags
When taking the spirale or a hot word (ÑÑÑ) hyperlink, a new gray tag appears at the bottom left of the screen. They are the memory of your navigation: clicking on the lowest tag returns to the last screen, and clicking to the top tag returns to the oldest screen. The program stores up to the 4 last screens.
Return Area
When in a subject, click in the return area (a rectangle always located and centered at the bottom of the screen, with a cursor similar to the map icon) to return to the main menu of the subject or its first screen.
Sequence and Timers
When the cursor on a picture changes to a square, then you are on a timed picture or sequence of timed pictures: they will display automatically according to some timings (usually a few seconds of interval). To stop on a picture, simply click: the cursor changes to a small loop icon. To restart the automatic sequencing, click again (in other words, to go directly to the next picture or screen, double-click).
QuickTime Controller
Click with the option key down to make the controller of a video sequence appear or disappear. It will allow you to see the video again at your convenience.
Audio Volume
To change the audio volume, type the 0 (minimum) to 7 (maximum) keys.
